Description
Known as Rapid Sustainment Modernization (RSM) falls under the Air Force's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation budget activity. The program aims to provide funding to the Rapid Sustainment Office (RSO) for the development, testing, and deployment of new technologies across the sustainment enterprise. The specific objectives include improving readiness and reducing sustainment costs by identifying enterprise needs across various areas such as warfighter support, depot maintenance, field maintenance, supply chain, and program offices. The RSO will assess, develop, validate, and verify new technology projects that support these areas while reducing costs and increasing aircraft readiness. The program also focuses on evaluating new sustainment technologies such as Conditioned Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+), Advanced Manufacturing (Additive Manufacturing/Coldspray), Digital Engineering, Automation/Robotics, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Austere/Contested environments, Intermittent Fault Detection (IFD), and Black Gold compressor blade coating in support of the Department of the Air Force (DAF) sustainment enterprise.
The program's planned activities for FY 2023 and FY 2024 include assessing new technologies/equipment and developing standardized processes to allow for procurement of equipment with appropriate funding. It also aims to bring Advanced Manufacturing under a single umbrella program to focus technology growth via the RSM AM AGORA Marketplace. Additionally, the program plans to continue assessing new technologies/equipment and developing standardized processes to allow for procurement of equipment with appropriate funding. It also intends to continue bringing Advanced Manufacturing under a single umbrella program to focus technology growth via the RSM AM AGORA Marketplace. Furthermore, the program will implement, expand, sustain, and enhance CBM+ SBA processes and CBM+ tool-kit to improve reliability of weapon systems while minimizing Logistics Analytics Data Environment (BLADE) to enhance data synthesis across the enterprise and enhance analysis/unscheduled repairs. These activities are aimed at reducing mission aborts, decreasing maintenance costs, and reducing cycle time through Enhanced Reliability Centered Maintenance (eRCM) and Sensor Based Algorithms (SBAs). Overall, the program seeks to achieve its objectives by leveraging research and development efforts in collaboration with various agencies within the Air Force.
