Personnel Recovery Support System (PRSS)

The primary goal of the Personnel Recovery Support System (PRSS) is to provide the Army with the necessary equipment and capabilities to locate and report isolated soldiers, forces, and elements. This includes the procurement of Personnel Recovery Devices (PRDs), such as Personal Locator Beacons, and other Personnel Recovery Support Equipment (PRSE) items. The program aims to support the Army's approved force structure and current investment strategy by ensuring that the Army has the necessary tools to execute personnel recovery operations effectively.

The specific objectives of the PRSS program include the procurement of 1,295 Army Personnel Recovery Devices (PRDs) and related equipment in FY 2024 at a cost of $5.356 million. This procurement supports system design changes and test and evaluation cost elements necessary to integrate second-generation COSPAS-SARSAT compatibility onto the PRSS system. The program also aims to meet the Army Acquisition Objective (AAO) for the PRSS, which is set at 86,522. Additionally, it seeks to ensure that the PRSS equipment meets specifications and is available for use when needed.
