Patriot Product Improvement

Known as the Patriot Product Improvement Program (PIP) aims to support the Army Modernization Priorities by enhancing the PATRIOT surface-to-air missile system. The program focuses on upgrading the PATRIOT System and the Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) system through software improvements and individual materiel changes. It also addresses operational lessons learned and necessary system performance improvements to ensure joint force interoperability and convergence with the IBCS for overmatch capability. Additionally, the program supports the identification, analysis, design, and testing of materiel solutions to counter cyber security and electronic warfare shortcomings in the Lower Tier Battle Space.

The specific objectives of this program include continuous improvement to current force PATRIOT and Army IAMD to keep pace with and counter evolving and emerging threats. This involves ongoing software improvement for threat evolution, advanced electronic countermeasures, combat ID enhancements, and tasks related to ground system and interceptor capabilities. The program also includes efforts to address upper-tier debris mitigation, THAAD/PATRIOT interoperability, PAC-3 seeker software improvements, program integration, mobile flight mission simulation, development and integration activities in support of the Pacific Defense Initiative, integrated fires architecture fire control development, as well as US government and contractor support for PIP efforts supporting system interceptors, ground support equipment, and current radar. These efforts are aimed at ensuring force effectiveness is maintained to keep pace with evolving and emerging threats.
