Description
NUDET Detection System (SPACE) is a joint effort between the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Energy (DOE) to provide a near real-time worldwide capability to detect, locate, and report nuclear detonations in the earth's atmosphere or near space. The program supports NUDET detection requirements across five mission areas: Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment (ITW/AA), Nuclear Force Management (NFM), Space Control, Treaty Monitoring, and a classified mission. The program includes the development, integration, fielding, and sustainment of satellite sensors and ground data processing hardware and software. It also involves the modernization and continuous improvement of the ground control segment through an incremental, evolutionary acquisition approach.
The specific objectives of Program PE 1203913SF include completing the integration and testing of survivable and endurable mission capabilities necessary for S2E2/SMGT Operational Acceptance planned for the 4th Quarter FY 2023. Additionally, the program aims to support next-generation USNDS receiver development in collaboration with the National Security Agency for crypto enclosure framework/algorithms. Furthermore, it plans to continue ramping up ICADS 7 preparation for Milestone B decision and Engineering & Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase leading up to Critical Design Review (CDR). These efforts are geared towards rapidly implementing system resiliency and situational awareness necessary to operate in the contested space domain.
