Navstar GPS Receivers (SPACE)

NAVSTAR GPS Receivers (Space) aims to procure and install anti-jam GPS antennas and modernized user equipment to ensure the continuation of GPS signals from space in a hostile jamming environment. The program is led by the Navy and supports the Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR) and Global Positioning System (GPS)-based Positioning, Navigation, & Timing Service (GPNTS) initiatives. NAVWAR counters the threat by increasing resistance to intentional or unintentional interference, while GPNTS provides more robust and secure GPS/PNT capabilities for combat, weapons, command, control, communications, navigation, and other systems. The program also aims to equip ships with anti-jam GPS antennas to ensure the continued availability of GPS to support surface combat operations and provide reliable GPS and other positioning, navigation, and timing data to ship-board Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR), Combat, and Weapons Systems.

The specific objectives of this budget line item include procuring dual Advanced Digital Antenna Production (ADAP) Fiber Optic Antenna Link (FOAL) antennas for NAVWAR and Full Rate Production (FRP) units for GPNTS in FY 2024. This procurement will increase the quantity of ADAP FOAL antennas from 3 to 6 for NAVWAR and from 17 to 20 for GPNTS. Additionally, the program will install these procurements in FY 2025. The funding allocation also includes initial spares and flyaway unit costs to support the installation of anti-jam GPS antennas on surface platforms. Overall, this budget line item aims to enhance the Navy's navigation warfare capabilities by ensuring reliable positioning, navigation, and timing information for military operations in challenging electronic environments.
