Description
The M30MLG - MM III Modifications program aims to fund modifications to the LGM-30, Minuteman III (MM III) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system. The specific objectives of the FY24 budget request include supporting the operational capability of the Minuteman III ICBM through the completion of deployment of Sentinel and addressing Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) issues. The modifications being performed on LGM-30 include Minuteman Minimum Essential Emergency Communications Network (MEECN) modification, Low Cost Modifications (LCM), Fast Rising B-Plug Service Life Extension (FRBP SLEP), and Automatic Switching Unit (ASU). These modifications are essential for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities.
The ASU Program under the M30MLG - MM III Modifications line item aims to replace obsolete components with modern commercial off-the-shelf components to improve reliability and supportability. This program will impact all Launch Facilities and Missile Alert Facilities at Minot Air Force Base (AFB) and Malmstrom AFB, as well as modify Minuteman trainers and facilities at Vandenberg Space Force Base. The new equipment is expected to have a design life of 10 years and will replace equipment that has exceeded its original design life. Additionally, this modification supports performance of a full financial audit as required by title 10 U.S.C. Chapter 9A, Sec 240-D Milestone/Development Status. The key production activities include the Production and Deployment Phase from 3QFY2023 to 4QFY2025 with ASU RAA expected in Sep 2025.
