MLRS Mods

MLRS Mods is a critical initiative within the Army's Long Range Precision Fires modernization effort. The program aims to upgrade and modernize the M270A1 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) launchers to the M270A2 configuration, extending their operational life to FY 2050 and beyond. This includes the installation of Improved Armored Cabs (IAC), Bradley commonality improvements, and Common Fire Control System (CFCS) to enhance crew survivability and standardize crew drill requirements. Additionally, the program involves the Assured Position, Navigation and Timing (APNT) update to improve system robustness against GPS jamming threats. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the Army has 350 MLRS launchers capable of providing precision strike, operational shaping fires, counterfire, and close support destructive and suppressive fires in support of Integrated Fires and Multi-Domain Operations.

The specific objectives of Program 6552C67500 include the modernization of 160 obsolete MLRS M270A0s to M270A2s through a Public Private Partnership as part of the Fleet Expansion effort. This involves addressing obsolescence and providing selective upgrades such as IAC, Bradley commonality improvements, and CFCS. Furthermore, the program aims to upgrade the current fleet of 190 M270A1 launchers to the M270A2 configuration through the Fleet Upgrade effort. This comprehensive upgrade effort will not only extend the operational life of these launchers but also ensure compliance with statutory requirements such as M-Code for improved system robustness against GPS jamming threats. The program also includes efforts to mitigate recurring obsolescence through various system engineering, program management, transmissions and engines activities.
