Description
The Missile Warning System Modernization (MWSM) aims to enhance the Aircraft Survivability Equipment (ASE) products on current US Army Aviation platforms and future platforms such as Future Vertical Lift (FVL) Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) and Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA). The specific goal is to develop and integrate an Improved Threat Detection System (ITDS) to detect, classify, cue, and declare on existing and emerging Electro-Optical/Infra-red (EO/IR) guided threats like Man Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS), Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG)/unguided rockets, Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM), Ballistic, and Lasers. This initiative will provide a cue to the appropriate countermeasure system and improve the expendable countermeasure system. The funding allocated for FY2024 will support program management, technical oversight for an ITDS milestone decision, and execution of contracts to initiate product development.
The Missile Warning System Modernization program's specific objective is to initiate the ITDS program in FY2024 by providing funding for pathway initiation and overseeing a robust development effort. This includes program management, technical oversight for an ITDS milestone decision, and execution of contracts to initiate product development. The program aims to enhance the capability of the US Army Aviation platforms by developing and integrating an Improved Threat Detection System (ITDS) that can detect, classify, cue, and declare on existing and emerging Electro-Optical/Infra-red (EO/IR) guided threats. Additionally, it will provide a cue to the appropriate countermeasure system and improve the expendable countermeasure system. The funding allocated for FY2024 will support these specific objectives by initiating the ITDS program within the Missile Warning System Modernization initiative.
