Description
Maritime Mines is a procurement program under the Navy's Weapons Procurement budget activity. The specific goal of this program is to procure naval mines for use as anti-surface ship or anti-submarine subsurface weapons. The program includes the procurement of various mine systems such as the Quickstrike (QS) family of mines, the MK 67 Submarine Launched Mobile Mine (SLMM), the MK 68 Clandestine Delivered Mine (CDM), and the Hammerhead Encapsulated Effector. These mines are designed to be used against surface and subsurface targets and are delivered by unmanned maritime platforms or surface vessels. Additionally, the program aims to develop and execute aerial delivery improvements to support capabilities required by a JEONS, including adding GPS-guided, powered and glide flight gear to the QS series to reduce risk to delivery aircraft by introducing precision placement and standoff range.
The objectives of Program 3231 include the procurement of hardware for Quickstrike MOD 3 and Quickstrike Extended Range (QS-ER) mines, as well as Encapsulated Effector Systems. This includes the acquisition of MK 75 Safe and Arming Devices, MK 71 Target Detection Devices, associated components, wing kits, engineering support equipment, payload, and support equipment for the Hammerhead program. The program also focuses on increasing procurement to support inventory objectives for Quickstrike Mod 3 and CDM through the acquisition of MK-71 TDD. Additionally, it aims to support deployment inventory objective requirements for Encapsulated Effector Systems by procuring primary hardware, payload, and support equipment.
