Description
The Joint Warfighting Program (JWP) is a part of the Office of the Secretary of Defense and falls under the Research, Development, Test & Evaluation, Defense-Wide budget activity. The program aims to support the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition (ASD(A)) in acquisition and portfolio management responsibilities. It underwrites analyses, studies, limited scope experiments, wargaming, and partnerships to define joint capability gaps and develop credible requirements for follow-on acquisition efforts. The program's objectives include delivering independent perspectives on potential remedies to align acquisition investments and solutions for joint capability gaps created by future warfighting environments and emerging threats. Additionally, it supports mission engineering integration management and addresses high priority emerging issues requiring independent analysis to inform acquisition decisions impacting national security.

The Joint Warfighting Program (JWP) is focused on providing analytical support for acquisition efforts for ASD(A) staff elements and joint customers. It promotes analyses and assessments for acquisition insights and decisions focused on capability development serving the needs of joint forces and the warfighter. The program's planned programs include continued acquisition analysis through a portfolio management lens to address critical joint warfighting mission areas critical to national defense. Major focus areas will support projects such as Mission Engineering and Integration, Mission Thread Pathfinder Analysis, Follow-on USSF C2 Review, and Acquisition Intelligence development. These efforts aim to streamline acquisition intelligence policy, guidance, and training to improve the integration of intelligence into acquisition, ensuring threat-informed acquisition. The program anticipates minimal funding increases in FY 2024 due to programmatic changes.
