Joint Direct Attack Munition

The Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) program is a joint Air Force/Navy program with the Air Force as the lead service. The specific goal of this program is to upgrade the existing inventory of general purpose bombs by integrating them with a field-installed guidance kit using a Global Positioning System-aided Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS). The program aims to provide accurate, adverse weather capability and is integrated with various aircraft including the B-52H, B-2A, B-1B, F-16, F/A-18, F-15E, AV-8B, A-10C, and F-22A. Additionally, the program is focused on developing M-Code capable guidance kits to meet GPS requirements and seeks cost efficiencies through production lot negotiations.

The objectives of Program 353620 include procuring JDAM guidance kits, laser sensors, airborne test equipment, and supporting activities such as software block upgrades and integration. The procurement is critical for providing M-Code capable guidance kits in support of an increased Inventory Objective. The program also aims to address evolving warfighter requirements driven by ongoing combat expenditures and may be used to address Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) issues through studies, bridge buys, life of type buys, supplier/parts replacement, and qualification activities to preserve future production capabilities and capacities. Additionally, the program seeks to achieve cost efficiencies through production lot negotiations in accordance with Title 10, U.S. Code Section 2308 BUY-TO-BUDGET ACQUISITION.
