              Description

Items Less Than $5 Million (AMMO) falls under the Army's procurement of ammunition budget activity. The specific goals and objectives of this program include the procurement of various types of ammunition items under $5 million, such as shotgun rounds, rifle cartridges, and specialty training ammunition. These items are essential for supporting war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction 3000.04 and Army Regulation 5-13. Additionally, the program aims to enhance the management of ammunition through process improvements, generation of metrics, and decision support analysis to ensure efficient and effective ammunition management across the lifecycle.
The program also supports various training requirements for the United States Army, including marksmanship training, troop training, and foreign weapons training. It provides critical support for efficiently managing ammunition across the portfolio as required by the Army as the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition in accordance with DODI 5160.68. Furthermore, it procures nonstandard and commercially-available specialty munitions and energetic materiel in support of US Army Marksmanship Unit training requirements defined by the Standards in Training Commission (STRAC) and set forth in Unit Programs of Instruction (POIs). Overall, the program aims to ensure that the Army has a sufficient inventory of essential ammunition items to meet operational needs and training requirements while adhering to regulatory guidelines.
