1507N - Weapons Procurement, Navy
Description
Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) is a procurement initiative under the Navy's Other Procurement budget activity, specifically focused on Aviation Support Equipment. The program aims to fund the procurement of Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) life cycle support modifications and upgrades required aboard Ford Class Carriers, Jet Car Track Site (JCTS), and Runway Arrested Landing Site (RALS) systems. This includes supporting fatigue life, addressing obsolescence, and enhancing performance to ensure operational capability throughout the program's lifespan. AAG will replace the Mark 7 arresting gear aboard Ford Class aircraft carriers, providing the U.S. Navy with the ability to recover existing and projected aircraft carrier-based tail-hook equipped air vehicles well into the 21st century. The program also aims to enhance operational capability, increase operational availability, and reduce manning, maintenance, and support costs.
The objectives of Program 4217 include ensuring that the AAG system remains operational throughout its lifecycle by funding modifications and upgrades required aboard Ford Class Carriers, Jet Car Track Site (JCTS), and Runway Arrested Landing Site (RALS) systems. These modifications are aimed at addressing fatigue life, obsolescence, and performance enhancements. Additionally, the program seeks to replace the Mark 7 arresting gear aboard Ford Class aircraft carriers with AAG to provide the U.S. Navy with the ability to recover existing and projected aircraft carrier-based tail-hook equipped air vehicles well into the 21st century. Furthermore, Program 4217 aims to enhance operational capability, increase operational availability, and reduce manning, maintenance, and support costs associated with these systems.
