3020F - Missile Procurement, Air Force
Description
MGBSD0 the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program, aims to design, develop, produce, and deploy a replacement for the current Minuteman III (MM III) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system. The program's specific objectives include maintaining a safe, secure, reliable, and effective nuclear deterrent through the delivery of a fully integrated weapon system beginning in Fiscal Year 2029. The program also seeks to mitigate ground-based deterrent degradation due to MM III component age-out and attrition. Additionally, the Air Force is procuring various components such as boost propulsion subsystems, post-boost propulsion subsystems, guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) subsystems, re-entry systems, and other related equipment to support the successful deployment of the Sentinel (GBSD) weapon system.
Furthermore, the program involves converting MM III Launch Centers (LC) and Launch Facilities (LF) to the Sentinel (GBSD) weapon system configuration across three operational wings. This includes procuring mission equipment modules and materials for LF/LC/ICC as well as prime contractor development of applicable support equipment, data, flight test hardware and infrastructure. The program also funds all required developmental and operational test and evaluation activities to meet initial and full operational capability milestones. These activities are essential for developing, improving, and modernizing test capabilities when existing ones are inadequate or non-existent. Overall, the program's goals are centered on ensuring the successful development and deployment of a modernized nuclear deterrent system while addressing identified capability gaps and vulnerabilities.
