Description
The Department of Defense (DoD) Unmanned Systems Common Development, aims to support the Department's initiatives to Deter Aggression and Build Sustainable and Long-Term Advantage. The program focuses on integrating unmanned systems into civil and expeditionary environments in a safe and effective manner, making commercially developed unmanned systems available to the Department for procurement and operation, identifying and mitigating unmanned system cyber vulnerability threats, and developing standards, concepts, and guidance that support the Department’s procurement and operation of unmanned systems. The effort primarily concentrates on UAS integration mission and UAS security mission in both the U.S. National Airspace and in an expeditionary environment, with a long-term goal of system and concept development across all unmanned systems.
Project 440: UAS Airspace Integration under PE 0604400D8Z supports both near-term and long-term DoD unmanned system development goals by focusing on making commercially developed unmanned systems available to the Department for procurement and operation that are cyber-secure, identifying and mitigating unmanned system cyber vulnerability threats, and developing standards, concepts, and guidance that support the Department’s procurement and operation of unmanned systems. The project aims to increase the availability of Blue UAS and components for future procurement by the DoD, integrate cybersecurity policies and standards into unmanned system architectures, develop safety standards for unmanned systems incorporating artificial intelligence, improve cybersecurity and communication links of unmanned systems, develop autonomy test and evaluation standards using modeling and simulation, support interoperability workshops, investigate a cyber-secure solution for integrating artificial intelligent systems into unmanned systems, among other objectives.
Project 442: Interoperability under PE 0604400D8Z focuses on developing concepts and prototype systems that support both the DoD unmanned systems integration and security mission. The project aims to enable DoD UAS interoperability in a UTM managed airspace environment by developing airspace access and integration concepts with the goal of enabling DoD UAS interoperability in a UTM managed airspace environment. The project also aims to ensure that concepts developed align with the vision established in current UAS integration-related concept of operations documents, assist in the development of future DoD UAS integration-related concept of operations documents through ongoing research, execution of Operational Assessments, ensure systems developed support integration with FAA current/planned airspace access and airspace integration systems including UTM systems.
