Budget Activity
5 - Modification of inservice aircraft
Description
CV-22 Mods is a part of the Air Force's Aircraft Procurement budget activity. The primary goal of this program is to fund the retrofit of fielded CV-22 aircraft, flight training systems, and systems integration laboratories to the Block C/20 configuration. This includes various engineering change proposals (ECP) to address a variety of CV-22 weapon system requirements. The modifications encompass capability improvements, reliability enhancements, and survivability upgrades to improve readiness, operational safety, suitability, and effectiveness. Additionally, the program aims to correct deficiencies identified during operational testing and field operations, improve aircraft reliability and maintainability, enhance self-deployment capability, enable unrestricted access to worldwide airspace, and enhance the effectiveness of defensive aircraft survivability systems.
The Department of the Navy (DoN) funds the development of the MV-22 and CMV-22 while the Air Force funds the service-common portion of the CV-22. United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) funds the development and procurement of SOF peculiar systems. Each service and foreign military service participates in cost share for non-recurring engineering. The designed service life for the aircraft is 10,000 flying hours over 30 years with a program of record for 56 CV-22s. The funding for this exhibit may be used to address Diminishing Manufacturing Source (DMS) and component obsolescence issues. This program has associated RDT&E funding in FY 2024 that provides for systems engineering activities for Airframe Enhancements and Enhanced Self-Deployment Capabilities.
