2034A - Procurement of Ammunition, Army
Description
CTG 50MM, All Types, falls under the Army's procurement of ammunition for small and medium-caliber weapons. The specific objectives of this program include the development and procurement of next-generation combat vehicle ammunition, such as the 50mm x 228 XM1202 Target Practice with Tracer (TP-T), XM1203 Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot with Tracer (APFSDS-T), and XM1204 High Explosive Airburst with Tracer (HEAB-T) cartridges. These items are part of a Defense Ordnance Technology Consortium (DOTC) Middle Tier Acquisition-Rapid Prototyping (MTA-RP) program to support the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) program. The program aims to transition to Milestone C in Quarter two FY 2024 and Low Rate Initial Production in Quarter three FY2024 for TP-T and APFSDS-T, and in Quarter four FY2025 for HEAB-T. The procurement supports critical Army Title 10 war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements in accordance with DoD Instruction 3000.04 and AR 5-13.
The FY 2024 Base budget request of $28.000 million supports the procurement of 52,000 cartridges for annual training and builds depot level and war reserve inventories in line with the Army's procurement goals. The ammunition suite is used both as training unique items not used in combat and war reserve items used in combat. The program also aims to meet the requirements for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities as mandated by Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181). Additionally, it is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces. The program's specific goals include supporting individual and collective training of Active and Reserve Component forces at Army schools, home station, and combined training centers while also supporting the development, fielding, safety, and quality assurance of Army munitions and equipment throughout their life-cycle.
