2034A - Procurement of Ammunition, Army
Description
CTG .50 Cal, All Types is a procurement program under the Army's 2034A: Procurement of Ammunition, Army / BA 01: Ammunition / BSA 30: Small/ Medium Cal Ammunition. The specific objectives of this program include supporting critical Army Title 10 war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements in accordance with DoD Instruction 3000.04 and AR 5-13. This includes meeting war reserve requirements for Combatant Commander Operational Plans, Homeland Defense, and other OSD-directed missions, as well as supporting individual and collective training of Active and Reserve Component forces at Army schools, home station, and combined training centers. Additionally, the program aims to support the development, fielding, safety, and quality assurance of Army munitions and equipment throughout their life-cycle.
The budget request for FY 2024 supports the procurement of various types of .50 caliber ammunition including CTG .50 Caliber M8 Armor Piercing Incendiary (API) Cartridge for training and combat use, CTG .50 Caliber Cartridge Ball M33 for annual training and war reserve inventory building, CTG .50 Caliber Blank Cartridge M1A1 for training exercises in conjunction with the M19 Blank Firing Attachment (BFA), and .50 Caliber Reduced Range Cartridges for live fire training on ranges with reduced Surface Danger Zones (SDZ). The program also includes the procurement of .50 Caliber Saboted Light Armor Penetrator (SLAP) cartridges used in combat against light armored targets and Armored Attack Helicopters (AAHs). The budget allocation for FY 2024 is $41.534 million to support the procurement of 13.312 million rounds in line with the National Defense Strategy and Combatant Command (COCOM) requirements. The program aims to convert any price advantage created through contract negotiations or Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to increase procurement when possible.
