CTG 40mm, All Types, falls under the Army's procurement of ammunition budget activity. The specific goals and objectives of this program include supporting critical Army Title 10 war reserve/operational, training, and test requirements in accordance with DoD Instruction 3000.04 and AR 5-13. The war reserve requirements support OSD-approved Combatant Commander Operational Plans, Homeland Defense, and other OSD-directed missions. The training requirements support individual and collective training of Active and Reserve Component forces at Army schools, home station, and the combined training centers. Additionally, the program supports test requirements for the development, fielding, safety, and quality assurance of Army munitions and equipment throughout their life-cycle.

The budget line item includes various types of 40mm ammunition such as low velocity day-night thermal cartridges for M203 and M320 Grenade Launchers, high velocity day-night thermal cartridges for MK19 Grenade Machine Gun, high explosive dual-purpose cartridges for M203 Grenade Launchers and MK19 Grenade Machine Gun, air burst capable cartridges for MK19 Mod 3 Grenade Machine Gun, and low velocity high explosive air burst cartridges for M320 Grenade Launcher. These items are used for annual training purposes and to build a war reserve inventory in accordance with the Army's procurement goals. The program also addresses counter-defilade capability gaps and allows the Warfighter to engage targets at increased effective ranges using the 40mm grenade launchers.
