Description
Chief Digital Artificial Intelligence Officer under the Office of the Secretary of Defense, aims to support the Department's initiatives in building enduring advantage and a resilient Joint Force and defense ecosystem. The program is responsible for strengthening and integrating data, artificial intelligence, and digital solutions in support of the National Defense Strategy and Section 1513 of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2023. Its specific objectives include leading and overseeing the DoD’s strategy development and policy formulation for data, analytics, and AI; breaking down barriers to data and AI adoption within DoD institutional processes; creating enabling digital infrastructure and services that support Components’ development and deployment of data, analytics, AI, and digital-enabled solutions; selectively scaling proven digital and AI-enabled solutions focused on enterprise and joint use cases; and surging digital services for rapid response to crises and emergent challenges.
The program's funding is assigned to support algorithm development, data preparation, and integration experimentation to create joint DoD and Intelligence Community capabilities. This includes expanding the AI integration between the DoD and Intelligence Community (IC), establishing a responsible AI ecosystem, executing the AI and Data Accelerator (ADA) initiative, developing a Data, Analytics, and AI Adoption Strategy, as well as creating joint interoperability to harness and scale AI across the DoD and IC jointly. The program's overarching mission is to accelerate the Department’s adoption of data, analytics, and AI to preserve decision advantage across the Joint Force. Further details on its accomplishments and planned programs are classified but available upon request.
