Description
CANES Intell under the Navy's Other Procurement budget activity, aims to modernize and protect tactical networks against increased cyber threats. The program's specific objectives include replacing and modernizing existing afloat networks with a cyber-hardened, warfighting resilient infrastructure to enable information warfare from and within the tactical domain. This includes providing complete network infrastructure for Unclassified, Coalition, Secret, and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) enclaves to a wide variety of Navy surface combatants, submarines, Maritime Operations Centers, and Aegis Ashore sites. The program also focuses on reducing the number of separate Fleet networks and driving affordability with a single engineered technical solution across the Fleet from patrol craft to aircraft carriers. Additionally, CANES is designed using commercial sector industry best practices to reduce development time and cost, leveraging commercial Information Technology (IT) approaches such as Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) to drive rapid upgrades.
Furthermore, CANES is programmed to field regular technical updates in order to keep pace with rapidly evolving cyber security threats and meet emerging operational demands. The program uses a DevSecOps framework to improve its engineering processes and speed the deployment of new cyber security, application hosting, and technical updates. Future CANES systems will incorporate technologies such as Cloud computing, Machine learning, and Artificial Intelligence. The program also uses a robust Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) program to improve the delivery speed and quality of network capabilities to the Fleet. Overall, the specific goals of Program CANES Intell are centered around enhancing the Navy's network infrastructure with modernized technology that can effectively combat cyber threats while ensuring operational efficiency across various naval platforms.
