Description
Base Defense Systems (BDS) aims to enhance the security and surveillance capabilities of the Army through the procurement and fielding of Integrated Ground Security, Surveillance and Response Capability (IGSSR-C), Ground-Based Operational Surveillance System (Expeditionary) (G-BOSS(E)), and Security Surveillance System (SSS). IGSSR-C is designed to integrate sensors, sensor systems, and unmanned systems with automated fusion capabilities to create an in-depth security, surveillance, and response Force Protection capability for fixed, semi-fixed, or expeditionary elements in all Operating Environments. G-BOSS(E) provides improved persistent surveillance capabilities and force protection utilizing advanced sensor configurations for small to large contingency base camps. SSS offers a modular, scalable, rapidly deployable ground-based security and surveillance Family of Systems tailored for various missions including internment/resettlement operations, perimeter security, and internal/external security support.

The objectives include achieving interoperability with current and emerging force protection systems used by Joint Forces, Department of Defense agencies, and multi-national forces. The program also aims to provide enhanced surveillance and observation capabilities in expeditionary environments while supporting short and long-term security, surveillance, and detection missions. Additionally, the program seeks to increase the Commander's situational awareness and Soldier survivability through all-weather imaging during daylight/twilight periods and limited visibility conditions. These efforts align with the requirements outlined in Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181) for use by the active components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities.
