Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing

Assured Positioning Navigation and Timing (APNT), is a critical modernization priority for the Army, aimed at providing ground maneuver forces with assured access to positioning, navigation, and timing information in contested or denied environments. The program addresses two critical capability gaps: Access and Integrity. Access refers to the ability to retrieve accurate positioning, navigation, and timing information in a contested electronic warfare/cyber environment, while Integrity refers to the ability to trust the information. The program includes the development and fielding of Military Code (M-Code) Global Positioning System (GPS) Ground User Equipment for dismounted soldiers, commanders, and mounted platforms. It also involves the implementation of Congressional and OSD guidance to develop and field resilient, survivable, and M-Code capable Ground User Equipment receivers for mounted platforms. Additionally, the program will prototype modular cards and software according to Modular Open System Approach (MOSA) standards for future modernization and new weapons systems.

The specific objectives of Program 9897K49000 include the procurement of Dismounted Assured Position Navigation and Timing Systems (DAPS) GEN II systems for dismounted mission profiles in denied environments. This includes providing assured timing and position data necessary for precision fires, command and control, and maneuver for selected Army units. The program also aims to deliver Mounted Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing System (MAPS) GEN II systems to provide combat forces with assured PNT information under conditions where space-based GPS may be limited or denied. This will enable Army forces to move, shoot, communicate, and provide situational awareness. Additionally, the program seeks to procure Alternative Navigation (ALTNAV) Enterprise as a global navigation solution providing warfighters with an alternative source of positioning and timing information that may be used as a contingency in case GPS is degraded or denied.
