Analysis Working Group (AWG) Support

Support for Analysis Working Group falls under the Office of the Secretary of Defense and is part of the Research, Development, Test & Evaluation, Defense-Wide budget activity. The program's specific goal is to fund assessments that help the Analysis Working Group (AWG) assist the Secretary and Deputy Secretary in guiding the analytic community and ensuring robust and high-quality strategic analysis products. This initiative aims to create an agile and responsive analytic enterprise that provides sound decision support for senior leadership. The program supports analytic research across the Department to guide reforms and develop a high-performing and innovative analytic enterprise with the right policies, structures, people, and tools to support timely strategic decisions for the U.S. Military.

The program's planned activities include establishing clear priorities and standards to focus analysts on decision support, improving transparency across the analytic community, enhancing data quality and access, and evolving methods and tools used in strategic analysis. These efforts are intended to advance key strategic priorities by improving the analytic underpinning available for senior leader decisions and addressing necessary enterprise reforms across the analytic community. The program's resources will continue to fund a mix of research activities carried out through university-affiliated research centers (UARCs), Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), and competitive contracts with commercial firms.
