Description
The Air and Missile Defense Planning & Control System (AMDPCS), is a critical component of the Army's modernization priorities for air and missile defense. The program aims to provide integration of air and missile defense operations at all echelons, supporting Army Air and Missile Defense Commands, Air Defense Artillery Brigades, Air and Missile Defense Battalions, and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense Batteries. The AMDPCS includes major subsystems such as the Air Missile Defense Work Station (AMDWS), Air Defense System Integrator (ADSI), Forward Area Air Defense (FAAD), and Joint Tactical Terminal (JTT). The objectives include providing a correlated air picture for commanders, joint tactical data-link gateway/air picture, three-dimensional air picture for commanders, and theater ballistic missile early warning for soldiers.
The program's specific goals include the procurement of 15 shelters for the Active Component and Army National Guard, along with the integration of 201 Assured Positioning Navigation and Timing units into fielded shelters. Additionally, six AMDWS workstations are to be procured for ADAM/IBCS shelter convergence. The funding also covers shipping/fielding costs, New Equipment Training (NET), software sustainment/support, technical expertise, Information Assurance and Vulnerability Assessment (IAVA). The program is essential for use by both active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities in accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181).
