Description
MD90 Aegis BMD Hardware and Software administered by the Missile Defense Agency, aims to procure, install, field, and deploy integrated Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) combat systems to operational ships and sites for homeland and regional defense. The program's specific objectives include delivering an enduring, operationally effective and supportable BMD capability to defend the nation, deployed forces, friends and allies. Additionally, the program seeks to increase this capability by delivering evolutionary improvements as part of Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) upgrades. The Aegis BMD combat system provides a forward-deployable, mobile capability to detect and track Ballistic Missiles of all ranges and the ability to destroy Short-Range Ballistic Missiles (SRBMs), Medium-Range Ballistic Missiles (MRBMs), and Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missiles (IRBMs) in the midcourse phase of flight, as well as shorter-range missiles in the terminal phase of flight. The program also provides a Long Range Surveillance and Track (LRS&T) capability to the Missile Defense System in support of early detection of BMD threats to the homeland.

The program's procurement activities focus on shipsets consisting of cabinets, cabling, equipment, and other material required to support a single shipboard installation of the appropriate BMD baseline. The 4.x to BL 5.4.1 (BMD 4.1.3) upgrade is a joint effort with the U.S. Navy with updates planned for 21 Flight I/II Destroyers (DDG). Capabilities delivered include discrimination and mission planner improvements, increased threat set, Sea Based Terminal (SBT) Increment II Capability Upgrade (CU), hypersonic tracking and reporting, and other warfighter improvements. The program also includes hardware and software updates such as Aegis BMD TI-12H to 5.x shipsets providing warfighter improvements implemented through Combat System upgrades to meet emerging threats.

Overall, Program MD90 aims to enhance the nation's defense capabilities by providing advanced Aegis BMD hardware and software for effective missile defense against various ranges of ballistic missiles while supporting ongoing BMDS upgrades for improved performance against emerging threats.
