Description
AEGIS BMD under the Missile Defense Agency, aims to develop and enhance sea-based ballistic missile defense capabilities to protect the nation, deployed forces, and allies from ballistic missile threats of all ranges and stages of flight. This includes delivering evolutionary improvements to the Missile Defense System through upgrades to the U.S. Navy AWS and SM infrastructures. The specific objectives include technology maturation and prototyping for radar surveillance and control upgrades, development activities in support of the Guam Architecture and Milestone schedule, increased testing and certification for BMD 6.0.1 development, and software upgrades for Standard Missile (SM)-3 Block IB Radio Frequency Links missile enhancement.

Furthermore, the program seeks to improve threat discrimination capabilities within the Missile Defense System architecture to enhance effectiveness against evolving adversary threats. This involves enhancing system-level performance analyses, identifying architecture alternatives that improve performance and interoperability with NATO systems, developing system requirements, conducting non-advocate assessments of system capabilities, and responding to real-world events. Additionally, AEGIS BMD Technology Design and Insertion efforts focus on ensuring consistent application of technical standards across the Aegis BMD program through systems engineering, architecture, modeling and simulation, verification and validation support, ship integration, and U.S. Navy and Joint Link certifications required for operational deployment.

In summary, the goals of Program PE 0603892C are centered around advancing sea-based ballistic missile defense capabilities through technology development, system-level performance enhancements, and improved threat discrimination within the Missile Defense System architecture. These efforts aim to bolster national defense against evolving ballistic missile threats while ensuring operational effectiveness and supportability.
