Description
AAV7A1 PIP under the Navy's Procurement, Marine Corps budget activity, aims to provide life-cycle support for the Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) Family of Vehicles (FOV). The program's specific objectives include continuous review of sub-systems to maintain system supportability and safety, procurement of replacement systems for obsolescence, and fielding of Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) for capability-based improvements of fleet assets. This includes the procurement of modernized components and subsystems such as Intercom Modernization, Tactical Communication Modernization (TCM), and replacement of legacy manned turret systems with modernized Remote Weapons Stations (RWS) for Personnel-variants. The program also focuses on reducing total ownership cost initiatives and improving AAV sustainment initiatives.
The AAV7A1 PIP program allocates funding for the installation of Tactical Communication Modernization (TCM) systems, emergent modifications to the AAV fleet required for major deadlining issues, safety of use, and obsolescence. Additionally, the program supports efforts in Engineering Maintenance and Technical Support (EMTS), material procurements to replace legacy parts and components, Field Service Representatives (FSRs), and AAV Command variant (AAV-C) software and hardware technology refreshes. The program also provides Integrated Logistics Support, Publications, and Technical Data support to sustain the fleet until retirement. The estimated retirement date for the AAV Personnel (AAV-P) and Command (AAV-C) variants is FY 2027; estimated retirement date for the AAV Recovery (AAV-R) variant is FY 2029.
