Offroad Autonomy is a start-up company formed in 2023 by scientists and engineers who worked together in the DARPA Subterranean Challenge and the DARPA RACER program. The company researches, develops, and sells software and services; the company does not develop hardware. In a nutshell, the key capability is autonomy software that enables unmanned systems to operate without GPS in terrain that is unmapped. The software is agnostic to the mobility platform and has already run on bipedal and quadrupedal legged robots, wheeled vehicles, and tracked vehicles. The Offroad Autonomy system rapidly adapts pre-trained Machine Learning models to novel terrains and environments. This dramatically reduces the burden of the massive data gathering needed by other learning-based perception methods.
