Objective
WISEWOMAN is intended to improve the cardiovascular health of low-income, uninsured and under-insured women, ages 40-64, who are participants in the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). Supplements to Public Law 101-354 expand the preventive health services provided through NBCCEDP to: (1) include screenings regarding blood pressure and cholesterol, and health education; (2) provide appropriate referrals for medical treatment of women receiving services pursuant to screenings; (3) ensure, to the extent practicable, the provision of appropriate follow–up services; and (4) evaluate activities conducted under paragraphs (1) and (2) through appropriate surveillance or program–monitoring activities.
