Objective
The mission of the office of Fossil Energy (FE) Industrial Carbon Capture and Storage Applications grant is to a.) demonstrate advanced technologies that capture and sequester CO2 emissions from industrial sources (e.g., cement plants, chemical plants, refineries, steel and aluminum plants, manufacturing facilities, and power plants using opportunity fuels (petroleum coke, municipal waste, etc.). into underground formations or put to beneficial use. The large-scale CCS projects include integration of CO2 capture, transportation and sequestration incorporating comprehensive Monitoring, Verification & Accounting (MVA), and/or b.) demonstrate innovative concepts for beneficial CO2 use, which include, but are not limited to, CO2 mineralization to carbonates directly through conversion of CO2 in flue gas or indirectly through capture of CO2 from air; use of CO2 from power plant or industrial applications to grow algae/biomass; or, conversion of the CO2 to fuels and chemicals.
