Objective
HUSSC: SL was a voluntary certification initiative established to recognize those schools participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) that have created healthier school environments through promotion of smarter lunchrooms, nutrition education, and physical activity. Monetary incentive awards became available for each HUSSC award level: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Gold Award of Distinction in 2009. The USDA Food and Nutrition Service will no longer be accepting applications for the HealthierUS School Challenge (formally known as the HealthierUS School Challenge: Smarter Lunchrooms or HUSSC: SL) Award Program, effective July 1, 2018.
