Objective
Indian Tribal Organizations (ITOs) and State agencies operating the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) have the opportunity to receive funding, in the form of direct cash assistance, for the purchase of domestically grown and produced foods These funds will enable ITOs and State agencies to alleviate supply chain challenges and national warehouse delays, which are impacting FDPIR inventory levels and more broadly, the availability of a sufficient variety and quantity of food resources for participants.
Applicant Eligibility
Indian Tribal Organization (ITO) means the recognized governing body of any Indian tribe on a reservation; or the tribally recognized intertribal organization which the recognized governing bodies of two or more Indian tribes on a reservation authorize to operate the Food Stamp Program or a Food Distribution Program on their behalf. State agency means the agency of State government, including the local offices thereof, which enters into an agreement with FNS for the distribution of commodities on all or part of an Indian reservation, and the ITO of any Indian tribe, determined by the Department to be capable of effectively administering a Food Distribution Program, which enters into an agreement with FNS for the distribution of commodities on all or part of an Indian reservation.
Beneficiary Eligibility
Public or private non-profit organizations, such as food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens, which provide food assistance to low-income persons.
