Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
The overall goal of this project is to develop the next-generation prediction system for determining the mean and extreme net basin supply and water levels to provide the foundation for defining risks of coastal inundation impacts and lake management decisions across subseasonal to annual time scales for the Great Lakes. The goal will be accomplished through an interdisciplinary effort that advances the predictability of regional climate and hydrology by identifying requirements for prediction using stakeholder engagement and analysis, establishing sources of uncertainty in predictability, and developing an experimental next generation probabilistic forecast that employs operational climate and water prediction models as well as machine learning / artificial intelligence (ML/AI).
