Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
This project will establish an observatory attached to Aquarius Reef Base to set baseline conditions and observe changes in the conditions that drive the health of the ecological systems of coastal South Florida. Aquarius Reef Base is Florida International University's undersea laboratory that is deployed in a research-only sanctuary preservation area in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary on the Florida Keys Reef Tract at the edge of the Florida Current, the ideal location to assess the health of the current conveyor belt from the eastern Caribbean, along the northern shores of South America, past Mexico and Cuba, and through the Gulf of Mexico.
