Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
This project is intended to replace an existing vented Ford type road-stream crossing acting as aquatic organism passage (AOP) barrier with an open span structure to facilitate fish passage, sediment transport, and to reduce isolation of sub populations of Niangua darter in the Little Niangua River Basin.
Replacing the existing low water crossing with a clear-span structure will reconnect 25 miles of Judge Creek to the Little Niangua River, including 13 miles of federally designated critical habitat for the Niangua darter.
Replacing the existing low water crossing with a clear-span structure will provide for improved safety for vehicle traffic. The clear-span structure will have much more conveyance and as a result, the crossing will be open to vehicular traffic a higher percentage of time during moderate stream rises.
The clear-span structure will also reduce the amount of maintenance and associated cost required by Dallas County Road and Bridge.
