Native American Library Services Enhancement Grants (2023)

Background
The Native American Library Services Enhancement Grants program is designed to support the achievement of agency-level goals of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and to facilitate the delivery of significant results consistent with its federal authorizing legislation. The program aims to improve digital services, educational programs, and the preservation and revitalization of Native American cultures and languages.

Grant Details
The program is focused on improving core library services for Native American tribes' communities. It aims to improve digital services to support education, workforce development, economic and business development, health information, critical thinking skills, and digital literacy skills. It also seeks to enhance educational programs related to specific topics and content areas of interest to library patrons and community-based users. Additionally, the program aims to support the preservation and revitalization of Native American cultures and languages through the development of efficient strategic partnerships within, across, and outside Native communities, preservation of unique content, and sharing of content within and/or beyond Native communities. The program uses three performance measures - effectiveness, quality, and timeliness - as a basis for understanding how well the grant program is meeting its goals.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for an award under this grant opportunity, the organization must be a federally recognized Indian tribe. Entities such as libraries, schools, tribal colleges, or departments of education are not eligible. However, they may be involved in the administration of this program.

Period of Performance
Projects must begin on September 1, 2023. The anticipated period of performance is from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2025. Project activities may be carried out for up to two years.

Grant Value
$3,300,000 is expected to be awarded through this announcement with an anticipated number of awards being 24. The individual awards are expected to range from $10,000 to $150,000 with an average amount of funding per award experienced in previous years being $137,500.
