4) Cross-talk between the mucosal immune system and the nervous system;
5) Mucosal Immunity in Systemic Health and Disease: Examining how mucosal immunity impacts overall health.

Studies must utilize relevant animal models or human tissues and should not focus on clinical trials or specific pathogens without a broader immunological context.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, local governments, state governments, tribal governments, and foreign organizations. Applicants must have the necessary skills and resources to conduct the proposed research. There are no specific cost-sharing requirements.

Period of Performance
The maximum project period is five years. The earliest start date for funded projects is anticipated to be October 21, 2025.

Grant Value
NIAID intends to commit $3,000,000 in FY 2026 to fund approximately 4-5 awards. Each application budget should not exceed $350,000 direct costs per year.
