This Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) supports an intensive, supervised (mentored) career development experience in violence prevention research leading to research independence. NCIPC supports K01 grants to help ensure the availability of an adequate number of trained scientists to address critical public health research questions to prevent violence and injury. Applicants must propose a research project that addresses at least one of the research priorities in the interpersonal violence prevention section of the NCIPC Research Priorities (https://www.cdc.gov/injury-violence-prevention/programs/research-priorities.html?CDC_AAref_Val=https://www.cdc.gov/injury/researchpriorities/index.html) as they relate to violence impacting children or youth (from birth through age 17). These research priorities include: Cross-cutting violence prevention; Adverse childhood experiences; Child abuse and neglect; Youth violence; Intimate partner violence (including teen dating violence); and Sexual violence. Applicants are also encouraged to address the following: (1) Multiple forms of violence impacting children or youth; (2) Firearm-related behavior, crime, injuries, and deaths among children and youth; (3) The social or structural conditions that contribute to a greater risk for violence and health inequities across population groups; and (4) How the proposed research study has practical relevance to inform prevention and intervention activities. Applicants should explicitly state the research priorities their application addresses.
Background
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through its National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC), aims to prevent injuries and violence through research, evaluation, and prevention activities.

The NCIPC Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) is designed to support new investigators in conducting research that addresses critical public health questions related to preventing interpersonal violence impacting children and youth from birth through age 17. This initiative seeks to build a diverse pool of trained scientists capable of addressing these pressing issues.

Grant Details
Applicants must propose a research project that addresses at least one of the NCIPC's research priorities related to interpersonal violence impacting children or youth. These priorities include:
- Cross-cutting violence prevention
- Adverse childhood experiences
- Child abuse and neglect
- Youth violence
- Intimate partner violence (including teen dating violence)
- Sexual violence.

Additionally, applicants are encouraged to explore multiple forms of violence, firearm-related behaviors, social or structural conditions contributing to risk for violence, and the practical relevance of their research for informing prevention and intervention activities.

The maximum award amount is $150,000 per year for up to three years, totaling a maximum of $450,000 per award. Indirect costs are limited to 8% of the Modified Total Direct Cost.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include individuals with a qualifying doctoral degree relevant to the field of study who have less than five years of post-graduate research experience in the violence prevention field. Underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Each application must identify a primary mentor who is an active investigator in the area of proposed research.

Period of Performance
The period of performance is expected to be from September 30, 2025, to September 29, 2028. Applicants may request a performance period of up to three years.

Grant Value
NCIPC intends to commit up to $600,000 in FY2025 to support up to four applications under this NOFO. The maximum total project funding is $450,000 per award over the three-year period.
