Description

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition, funded through the Gender Equity and Equality Action Fund, for organizations interested in advancing the role of women in the global labor movement.
Background
The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) is funding this open competition through the Gender Equity and Equality Action Fund to advance the role of women in the global labor movement.

Grant Details
The project involves assessing the scale and impact of women labor movement leaders in Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The assessment will be used to develop and implement targeted interventions to advance the role of women in labor movements in one country per each region. The proposed project will involve two phases: focused research on women in the labor movement and as labor leaders in the identified regions, followed by developing interventions in three countries - one per region - for women labor leaders to build their skills and grow their professional networks.

The proposed projects must include activities that contribute to worker organizations including women in leadership positions, leveraging their collective skills and platforms to convene together to advance shared goals. Additionally, proposed projects should make incremental changes contributing to research on the status and impact of women in labor movements, application of knowledge and skills related to leadership, advocacy, mentorship, negotiation, and collective bargaining by women labor movement leaders.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include U.S.-based and foreign-based non-profit organizations/nongovernmental organizations (NGO) and public international organizations; private, public, or state institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations or businesses. DRL’s preference is to work with non-profit entities; however, there may be some occasions when a for-profit entity is best suited.
