Description

The U.S. Geological Survey Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) is offering a funding opportunity to provide research to (1) understand the biotic and abiotic constraints on successful reclamation, (2) develop reclamation effectiveness assessment workflows, and (3) identify management practices that promote reclamation success. These are currently significant scientific challenges for management of surface disturbance following oil and gas developed and other land disturbing activities in arid landscapes.

This research is directed at creating actionable information for supporting science-driven decisions related to reclamation on western drylands and the Colorado Plateau.

Grant Details
Specific objectives include providing expertise, field-based experimentation, and advanced statistical approaches to evaluate barriers to reclamation success; synthesizing information, conducting additional analyses, and performing modeling to improve current approaches to evaluate outcomes-based monitoring of reclamation actions; and sharing results through scientific publications, presentations at scientific meetings, and through workshops and informal interactions with partners.
