The Embassy of the United States in Tashkent announces an open competition for past participants ( alumni ) of U.S. government-funded and U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs to submit applications to the 2025 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF 2025). We seek proposals from teams of at least two alumni that meet all program eligibility requirements below. Exchange alumni interested in participating in AEIF 2025 should submit proposals to Tashkent-Alumni@state.gov by January 5, 2025 (11:59 p.m. U.S. Eastern time).

AEIF provides alumni of U.S. government-sponsored and facilitated exchange programs with funding to expand on skills gained during their exchange experience to design and implement innovative solutions to global challenges facing their community. Since its inception in 2011, AEIF has funded nearly 500 alumni-led projects around the world through a competitive global competition.

AEIF grants support alumni team initiatives that increase regional and global collaboration of alumni, support U.S. foreign policy objectives, and benefit local communities. In 2024, Public Diplomacy Section Tashkent had a winning project from Uzbekistan titled LEGO Therapy: Socializing and Learning Through Play for Children with Learning Disabilities, Particularly with Autism.' The project was designed to train trainers, educators, and caregivers and address learning disabilities among autistic children through LEGO therapy.

Background

Grant Details
The AEIF 2025 aims to increase the capacity of U.S. government exchange alumni to implement public service projects that support priority themes such as: advancement of gender equity and equality; STEAM for social progress; innovative solutions for environmental challenges; promotion of disability rights; and media literacy among youth.

Projects must be proposed and managed by teams of at least two alumni, who may collaborate with not-for-profit organizations, think tanks, or academic institutions. The grant can be issued to individual alumni or their partner organizations. Eligible projects should address specific community needs and demonstrate a clear plan for implementation, including measurable objectives and outcomes.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants must be alumni of a U.S. government-funded or sponsored exchange program, with project teams consisting of at least two alumni. U.S. citizen alumni may participate as team members but cannot submit proposals.

Applications must be submitted by exchange alumni or associations thereof; other organizations are not eligible to apply. Organizations must have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) issued via SAM.gov and a valid registration in SAM.gov.

Period of Performance
The performance period for projects is expected to be between 6 to 12 months, with proposed projects needing completion within this timeframe.

Grant Value
The total available funding for AEIF 2025 is $35,000, with individual awards ranging from a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of approximately $35,000.

Place of Performance
The grant activities will primarily take place in Uzbekistan.

The following organizations/individuals are eligible to apply: • Applicants must be alumni of a U.S. government-funded or sponsored exchange program or a U.S. government-sponsored exchange program (https://j1visa.state.gov/). • Projects teams must include teams of at least two (2) alumni. • Alumni who are U.S. citizens may not submit proposals, but U.S. citizen alumni may participate as team members in a project. • Alumni teams may be comprised of alumni from different exchange programs and different countries. • Applications must be submitted by exchange alumni or alumni associations of USG exchange alumni. No other organizations are eligible to apply. Exchange alumni can partner with not-for-profit or non-governmental organizations, think tanks, and academic institutions to implement project activities. The grant can be issued to the individual alumni or the partner organization. For-profit entities, even those that may fall into the categories listed above, are not eligible to apply for this NOFO. Organizations may sub-contract with other entities, but only one, non-profit, non-governmental entity can be the prime recipient of the award. When sub-contracting with other entities, the responsibilities of each entity must be clearly defined in the proposal.
