Title
Side Channels for Heterogenous ICs
Abstract
With the advent and increased adoption of heterogenous ICs (HICs) that incorporate multiple single-purpose ICs (e.g., CPU, GPU, FPGA, AI/ML-accelerations, memories, analog components, etc.) and the associated unified packaging, it is no longer trivial to attribute a specific side channel measurement to a single IC (or component of an HIC). This complexity drastically impacts multiple domains relating to IC analysis, including 1) the ability to identify and characterize the embedded IC types (e.g., to generate a hardware bill of materials or HBOM); 2) performing design (including hardware, software, and/or data) authentication; and 3) the ability to explore and define side-channel attack mitigations for state-of-the-art microelectronic designs. The proposed solution aims to address these issues.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
