Title
Auxiliary Power Supply for Aerospace Hydraulic Systems
Abstract
The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the United States Air Force (USAF) are interested in a new design that overcomes obsolescence and repair issues associated with Auxiliary Power Supply (APS) units used in aerospace hydraulic systems. The need for alternative suppliers for aftermarket and obsolete components is critical to maintaining mission readiness and capability for several legacy weapons platforms. Opportunities exist to leverage new manufacturing methods to overcome these obsolescence and repair issues; such opportunities will be researched within the effort. Existing APS units used in airborne platforms have several issues which limit tenable repair operations. To this end, Kaney Inc. (Kaney) proposes an accelerated Research and Development (R&D) program for APS units. Kaney is uniquely positioned to perform these activities under a SBIR, as a USAF Veteran-Owned Small Business with vertically integrated manufacturing and engineering. The end goal of this activity is to research and develop new manufacturing alternatives to the APS units currently in use, produce prototype APS units, and submit a SAR package enabling Kaney to manufacture new units that meet or exceed the performance of existing units.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
