Title
Advanced Ampoule Preparation Techniques for Large Volume CdZnTe Single Crystal Growth
Related Solicitation
Abstract
The goal of the project is to develop innovative advanced ampoule preparation techniques for large diameter 150 mm CdZnTe boules for large volume CdZnTe single crystal substrate production for long wavelength infrared detector arrays. We aim to significantly improve the ampoule preparation process for 150 mm single-crystal CdZnTe boules that improves the dimensional control during the ampoule manufacturing process and improves the reliability, dimensional control, and reproducibility of the ampoule vacuum sealing process. We will work with quartz ampoule manufacturers to improve the dimensional accuracy of ampoules. We will also develop a robust automated evacuation and seal off tool and process that will take out the art from the sealing process and replace with machine control and programmability. Nious will work with Technical Glass Products (TGP) and with Raytheon Vison Systems (RVS) during the development of the advanced ampoule fabrication and preparation tools and processes. In Phase I a prototype automated ampoule sealing tool will be designed and demonstrated for smaller diameter ( 50 mm) crystal growth ampoules. If Phase II of the project is awarded, Nious will continue to collaborate with TGP and RVS and will design, build, and demonstrate an automated ampoule sealing tool prototype capable of 125 mm and 150 mm ampoule seal-off. The ampoule preparation technology will be developed for large diameter CdZnTe crystal growth; however it will be applicable to quartz ampoule-based material synthesis, processing, and crystal growth, of any diameter, and will have widespread market opportunity.
