Abstract
Triton Systems and our team proposes to develop a novel, low-cost electromechanical actuator to decrease procurement cost and schedule for missile defense applications. The proposed actuator design will feature reduced part counts, as well as part-level optimization to reduce weight while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness. The resulting actuator design will provide improvements over state-of-the-art electromechanical actuators by providing reduced cost, quicker lead times, and reduced size, weight, and power. During the Phase I effort, Triton s approach will focus on developing an improved actuator architecture using state-of-the-art modeling and simulation techniques. A baseline prototype will be produced to conduct breadboard-scale testing for model validation. During Phase II, the actuator design will be further refined via representative environmental testing, as well as optimization for cost and performance. A detailed cost and manufacturing analysis will also be conducted. Approved for Public Release | 23-MDA-11635 (9 Nov 23)
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
