Abstract
Tragically, incidents involving firearm attacks on government property are not uncommon there were 30 active shooter incidents on government property from 2000-2019 demonstrating a vulnerability in government complex security. These threats often target indoor facilities where it is increasingly difficult to detect, manage, and provide real time response updates to security teams. Current security practices are reactive, ineffective, and have numerous limitations delaying response times up to 12 minutes. Currently used acoustic systems are reactive and have a high false positive rate. Metal detectors slow down foot traffic, are only effective if entry points are limited, are highly visible, and cannot detect at range. Both systems require additional equipment that is expensive to acquire, maintain, and operate. Our innovative solution, ZeroEyes Indoor Drone Response (ZIDR), uses low-cost video analytics onboard UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) for base/perimeter detection, tracking, identification, and assessment to address current and future threats. Utilizing indoor drone technology paired with AI object detection analytics, forces will have real-time situational awareness of threats, minimizing risk to personnel and increasing response times. Our Phase II initiative is poised to enhance our product significantly, making it a strategic capability ready to bolster the readiness of DoD bases globally.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
