Background
The Department of Veterans Affairs is issuing a contract for the provision of sharps and chemotherapy waste collection and disposal services at the Captain James A Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, IL. This contract aims to ensure compliance with waste minimization requirements while enhancing safety for staff, patients, and visitors. The contract is set aside for 100% Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs) verified within the Small Business Administration’s VetCert database.

Work Details
The contractor shall furnish all permits, services, materials, labor, supervision, management support, transportation, supplies, and equipment required to provide a reusable medical sharps container management program. Key tasks include:

1. Removal and disposal of existing sharps container systems;
2. Installation and relocation of reusable sharps containers;
3. In-service training for staff on proper use and handling;
4. Monitoring of containers for timely collection and replacement;
5. Transportation and disposal of medical sharps waste in accordance with all applicable laws.

The program will also include chemotherapy waste containers designated by color for specific use in the Infusion Center.

Period of Performance
The contract will be performed over a five-year ordering period from February 1, 2025, through January 31, 2030.
