Description

The Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southwest (NAVFAC SW), in collaboration with the General Services Administration (GSA), is conducting market research to identify potential providers for a High Voltage Electrician (HVE) Apprenticeship Training program. This initiative aims to ensure that Navy personnel receive comprehensive vocational and technical training that complies with Department of Labor (DOL) standards. By partnering with an accredited provider, NAVFAC SW seeks to enhance the skills and competencies of its workforce, thereby supporting the Navy's operational readiness and infrastructure maintenance capabilities.

The apprenticeship training program is designed to accommodate approximately 5-10 employees per year, offering both instructor-led and distance learning components. The Lineman Apprenticeship Program (LAP) will provide hands-on, instructor-led training, while the Power Delivery Program will be delivered through distance learning platforms. This dual approach ensures flexibility in learning while maintaining high educational standards.

The courses within the HVE Apprenticeship Training cover a wide range of essential topics necessary for high voltage electricians. These include Applied Mathematics (21 hours), Basic Electrical Theory (16 hours), Electrical Systems (25 hours), First Aid (15 hours), Introduction to Power Delivery (22 hours), Knots, Splices, and Ropes (19 hours), and OSHA 1 compliance training (12 hours). Each course is meticulously structured to equip apprentices with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for their roles.
