Excercise facility within 10 miles of the Durham VAMC.   3

Background
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is seeking to establish a contract for an exercise facility to support the Gerofit program at the Durham VA Health Care System (DVAHCS).

The Gerofit program is a medically supervised group exercise initiative aimed at older veterans, specifically those aged 65 and older, promoting public health guidelines for physical activity. The goal of this contract is to provide a suitable location for these veterans to engage in regular exercise sessions.

Work Details
The contractor will provide leased time and space for the Gerofit program, accommodating an average of 60 veterans (ranging from 45-90 individuals per day) over a 2.5-hour block of time on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.

The facility must include:
- Existing group exercise space (approximately 500 ft²) for classes and activities such as balance and Tai Chi, accommodating 20-25 individuals.
- Access to aerobic machines including stationary and recumbent bicycles (≥5), treadmills (≥5), ellipticals/arc trainers (≥3).
- Strength training equipment including leg press, seated hamstring curl, chest press, lat pulldown, padded low row, quadricep extension, and free weights ranging from 1 to 30 lbs.
- A swimming pool is preferred but not required; if available, up to twice weekly access for programming is requested.
- Secured storage space for exercise equipment and administrative materials.
- Handicap accessibility throughout the facility including bathrooms and ample parking for approximately 60 veterans.
- Free secure Wi-Fi access for staff documentation purposes.

The contractor must ensure that the facility maintains a clean environment with sanitation supplies available.

Period of Performance
The contract period begins on September 12, 2024, and ends on September 12, 2025.

Place of Performance
The facility must be located within a 10-mile radius of the Durham VA Health Care System at 508 Fulton Street, Durham NC 27705.
